Yesterday Jeff called around 12:30 pm and told me he had left work early for the day and asked if I wanted to bring Livi to him right then because really severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes had been forecast. He said I should leave right away to hopefully avoid the storms. Okay, no problem. So we leave and things were fine, it was sunny - although I could see some scary clouds moving in.
About 15 minutes away from Jeff's he calls me asking where I am because it is pouring at his place. I give him my location and he tells me to be careful because it is really bad at his house - very windy with heavy rain.
Not even 2 minutes later, this is what I see is in store for me up ahead:
I called him back and I was like, "Dude, meet me half way, I don't want to drive into this!" and he's all "Hell No! There is a tornado warning right now and the clouds are so low that I've been seeing cloud to ground lightning! I'm not going out in this!" Niiice...okay, so me and the 3 kids will just drive into a tornado warning area.Honestly I didn't know what to do. I was going to turn around and go home but when I looked in my rear view mirror, the sight wasn't any prettier. FUCK - there goes Dorothy and Toto!
I called CJ and told him the situation and that I might just turn around and come home and he told me that I was more than half way there so I should just continue on. He then went on about how this aspect of my personality is one if the things that annoys him, I get so freaked out about weather. Gee, I'm sorry, I suppose it is fairly normal to drive right into a severe storm, what was I thinking getting all freaked out? *eye roll* He then adds that if I am that worried I should just come home and he'll take Olivia. Well, that idea was just plain stupid. The severe weather alert had extended until at least 8 pm.
I continue on and it begins to get very windy and I see the clouds, they were so low to the ground. Then I see the lightning. Oy vey, I threw up a little in my mouth - oh and my stomach was churning, I suddenly felt the need for a bathroom! Yay for anxiety!
Traffic came to almost a complete halt and then it happened, rain poured out of the sky and the wind blew hard:
It took an eternity to get to Jeff's but we made it safely. I dropped Olivia off and turned right around to come home. At that time I was basically following the storm. Gee, what I have always wanted to be, a 'storm chaser' - NOT!Needless to say that was the worst part of the day. It continued to rain off and on and even right now it's raining outside but the severe part passed, for now anyway. Seems in my quest to avoid the storms I ran right into them!
Oh and by the way, the basement has remained dry!

That is freaking scary! Good thing you were safe though. We had some experiences too like that where we were caught in the middle of the road where there was a tornado watch and hail storm possibilities and the wind was blowing so hard that it pushed our new vehicle almost to the ditch. My heavens! Be safe!
