You know, I've always followed that one 'rule' - never speak up about religion or politics - those are just hot button topics and most people can't discuss without getting angry. My views are a bit different when it comes to politics and some people think that what is important to them should be important to me too, just because we're friends.
Well, here's a news flash: they're wrong. Many think that because I'm Pagan I should be this left winged tree hugging liberal and I'm not. I was raised in a Democratic family but as I grew older I also developed my own views - wow, what a concept.
I am pro-choice but that is on the bottom of the list as far as issues go when it comes to electing the next President.
I am not for gay marriage. Whoa - huge flag right? Well, marriage is a religious institution - no matter how you look at it. I think same sex unions should be recognized and I think they should qualify for the same rights as heterosexual unions but I don't think it should be marriage that unites them.
This is the reason Zyon and I are not married - we are not religious. We are spiritual but the path we follow does not 'require' we be married in order to live together and raise a family. Now, the government does require that for legal reasons etc., and if we'd ever make it legal, it would not be marriage per se, but a recognized civil union.
I am for stem cell research - and I now know stem cells are found in a woman's menstrual blood - so there are new technologies regarding this that may make it less controversial.
I am not for universal health care - just look at Canada's health care system - 'nough said.
On immigration - keep illegals out and if they're here, send them back. Sorry, you got here illegally and now the US should just let that slide??? Nope.
I am for drilling here and while we're doing that to sustain us, for now, I think we should be working on alternative ways to create energy so we can finally be free of oil.
I think I need more coffee to remember all the topics regarding this election. The point is, I don't vote for my party, so to speak. I look at whom I feel is the best suited for the job and right now, given the options, I feel McCain is. 4 more years of Bush? I don't feel that way BUT let me tell ya, at this point, I'd rather have Bush himself for 4 more years than Obama.
So, unless I get really outraged about something, I shall try to refrain from blogging about this election because well, I want this blog to be a cute little happy blog.

While we do share opposite opinions about a lot of things, I do respect what you have to say about several issues. I have to confess, I have been dropping entrecards without actually reading for a few days (hehe)but I always salute women who stand for what they believe in, even if those beliefs are not shared by myself.
Politics indeed is a volatile subject for many, but i'd rather see a person taking a definite stand, than standing mum on a topic and goes with the flow.
Keep it up and good luck always. :)
Hey Dale. You know I do read your blog, hehe, I love it!!
Thank you for taking the time to comment - and compliment!

Wow, odd choice of picture for this topic... lol!!! I share most of your views actually. But I do think that marraige has grown to be less of a religious thing and more of a public display of affection and commitment between two people. I also do not want to get married in my lifetime though.
